Pre-Register for DSNAP Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) is encouraging residents to prepare for hurricane season by pre-registering online for Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits (DSNAP). DCFS Advisory Board Meeting 5.31/17 - The DCFS Advisory Board meeting will be held Friday, June 2, 2017, from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. at 627 North 4th Street, Baton Rouge, LA.
DCFS Report Shows 25 percent Increase in Human Trafficking Cases in Louisiana 4.19.17 - A report on human trafficking, trafficking of children for sexual purposes and commercial sexual exploitation showed a 25 percent increase in victims over the past year, with 447 victims reported in 2017, compared to 357 in 2016. Louisiana Parents can now make Child Support Payments at WalMart, CVS, Albertson's and Other Retail Stores through MoneyGram 3.9.17 - Parents who make child support payments through DCFS can now make cash payments through MoneyGram at Walmart, CVS or any other of MoneyGram's estimated 780 locations in Louisiana.
Two Days Remain for Eligible Orleans Residents in Impacted Area to Apply for DSNAP 2.22.17 - The Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) is reminding eligible residents of New Orleans' tornado-impacted area they have two days left to apply for Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (DSNAP) benefits. DCFS Receives Waiver to Allow Hot Foods Purchased with SNAP or DSNAP Cards in Seven Tornado-Impacted Parishes 2.17.17 - The Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services requested and received approval of a waiver from the United States Department of Agriculture Food and Nutrition Service to allow the purchase of hot foods with Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, formerly Food Stamps) or Disaster SNAP benefits in seven tornado-impacted parishes through March 31, 2017. The affected area approved for DSNAP assistance is generally located south of Dwyer Road and Michoud Bayou, east of Wilson Avenue, north of Almonaster Avenue, and ?west of Gentilly Road. An impact map is attached and can be found at www.dcfs.la.gov/disaster and staff will be stationed at the DSNAP site entrance daily to verify addresses.

The affected area approved for DSNAP assistance is generally located south of Dwyer Road and Michoud Bayou, east of Wilson Avenue, north of Almonaster Avenue, and west of Gentilly Road. DCFS Celebrates Record Adoptions at 18th Annual Adoption Reception 11.04.16 - More foster children have found permanent homes over the past year than in any year thus far. Today, the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) marked National Adoption Month with a celebration honoring 532 families who adopted 735 Louisiana foster children between October 1, 2015 and September 30, 2016 - the most in one year to date.
Governor Edwards, DCFS Announce Federal Approval of Second Month of Disaster Food Assistance for 11 Most Heavily Impacted Parishes 10.10.16 - Gov. John Bel Edwards and the Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services have announced the approval of a second month of Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (D-SNAP) benefits for households in 11 parishes that received D-SNAP or supplemental SNAP benefits after the August flooding. DCFS Issues Nearly $80 Million in Disaster Food Assistance in 21 Parishes 09.13.16 - The Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) issued nearly $80 million in disaster food assistance in 21 parishes impacted by flooding -- with more than $48.9 million in Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (DSNAP) benefits and more than $30.9 million in disaster-related benefits to regular SNAP households.
St. Tammany Parish has Additional ZIP Code Approved for DSNAP 09.08.16 - The Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) received approval today from the federal Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) for an additional ZIP code in St. Tammany Parish that was impacted by recent floods to be added to the third phase of Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (DSNAP). Beginning tomorrow, residents living in the immediate vicinity of the Tchefuncte River in St. Tammany ZIP code 70433 may also apply for DSNAP. Additional Evangeline Parish ZIP Code Approved for DSNAP 09.07.16 - The Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) received approval today from the federal Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) for an additional ZIP code in Evangeline Parish that was impacted by recent floods to be added to the third phase of Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (DSNAP). Beginning today, residents living in Evangeline Parish ZIP code 70589 may also apply for DSNAP.
Almost 110,000 Households Receive DSNAP Benefits in First Two Weeks of Application Period 09.05.16 – The Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) issued $43.9 million in Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (DSNAP) benefits to 109,610 households in the first two weeks of operations. Additional Washington Parish ZIP Code Approved for DSNAP 09.04.16 - The Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) received approval today for the southwestern tip of Washington Parish ZIP code 70427 to be added to the Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (DSNAP) operations that begin Tuesday, September 6.
Two Additional Parishes Approved for DSNAP Week Three 09.02.16 - The Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) received approval for two additional parishes, St. James Parish (ZIP codes 70052, 70071, 70723, 70743, and 70763) and West Baton Rouge Parish, to be added to the Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (DSNAP) operations that begin on Tuesday, September 6.
