DCFS Sets New Record for Adoptions from Foster Care

Adoptive families, advocates to be honored at statewide event

Guest speaker for the event will be David Scotton, an LSU law student and adoption advocate whose journey to meet his biological parents after being adopted at birth is the subject of the award-winning documentary "I Lived on Parker Avenue." The celebration also will feature face painting, balloon artists and fairytale princesses who will take pictures with the children. Music will be provided by the Leroy Pero Ensemble.

The event is one of many happening across the state throughout November, which Gov. John Bel Edwards proclaimed as Adoption Awareness Month in Louisiana. DCFS dedicates each November to honoring those who have made a difference in a child's life through adoption and to raising awareness in an effort to provide homes for about 165 children who remain in need of a permanent, adoptive home.
