BATON ROUGE – As part of National Disability Awareness Month, Louisiana RehabilitationServices will help host a job fair in Houma on Thursday, Oct. 30 to help bridge the needs of thebusiness community with the employment needs of citizens with disabilities who are job-readyand looking for work. The event will be at Evergreen Cajun Center, 4694 West Main Streetfrom 8 a.m. until noon.
The job fair, which is free to both employers and job seekers, will include booths from a numberof community partners who provide resources and services to individuals with disabilities. Thisyear information sessions and seminars will be held, including Social Security counseling fromthe Louisiana Work Incentives Planning and Assistance (La-WIPA) Coalition.
The job fair in Lafayette is one of nine jobs fairs held across the state during October as part ofDisability Awareness Month, which was proclaimed by Governor Bobby Jindal. More than1,400 people have participated in job fairs already held this month in Alexandria, Shreveport,Lake Charles, Slidell, West Monroe, Metairie, Baton Rouge and Lafayette enabling more than1,000 job seekers to connect with businesses in the area.
Sponsors of the job fairs, that have worked together for five years to hold this annual event,include Louisiana Rehabilitation Services, the Department of Health & Hospitals’ MedicaidPurchase Plan and the Louisiana Business Leadership Network.
