Sarah Tirrell
General Counsel
Sarah Tirrell joins the Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services as General Counsel. A graduate of the LSU Law Center, she brings more than 15 years of experience in law and public service. She has served the people of Louisiana in a variety of roles, including at the East Baton Rouge District Attorney’s Office, the Louisiana District Attorney’s Association, and, most recently, the Louisiana Department of Health as Deputy General Counsel.
Throughout her career, Sarah has demonstrated a deep commitment to justice and advocacy, including prosecuting cases, drafting legislation, and training attorneys on victims’ rights, human trafficking, and trial preparation. She has also worked with the Louisiana Law Institute and the Sentencing Commission to strengthen state policy and has testified before the Legislature on key justice issues.
Sarah is honored to continue serving the people of Louisiana in this role and looks forward to supporting the department’s mission to protect children, empower families, and strengthen communities.
