BATON ROUGE, LA. (Sept. 22, 2026) – In a letter to the Louisiana Department of Education, Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) Secretary Rebecca Harris confirmed that mandated reporter training completed through Vector Solutions or SafeSchools is recognized by DCFS as allowable equivalent training pursuant to Louisiana Children’s Code Article 609(A)(3)(c).
Individuals who have completed the applicable Louisiana mandated reporter training through either platform may be reported as having satisfied the state’s mandated reporter training requirement.
Louisiana law requires mandatory reporters to be offered training addressing the statutory requirements and responsibilities associated with reporting child abuse and neglect and identifying the signs and symptoms of child neglect and abuse, including sexual abuse and human trafficking. The law also allows educational institutions to provide their employees, volunteers or educational attendees with equivalent training.
“DCFS appreciates the Louisiana Department of Education’s continued partnership in ensuring that educators and other mandatory reporters have the training and resources necessary to recognize and report suspected child abuse and neglect. Protecting Louisiana’s children and preventing child abuse and neglect is DCFS’ highest priority, and ensuring mandatory reporters have the knowledge and resources they need to speak up is an important part of that work,” said Secretary Rebecca Harris.
DCFS will provide additional guidance through a formal memorandum and update its website to reflect the approved training options.
