DCFS' Safe Sleep TV Commercial Targets Areas with High Rate of Co-sleeping Child Fatalities

03.12.12 - The Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) today launched a television commercial promoting safe sleep for babies. The commercial focuses on the risk of co-sleeping or bed-sharing with parents and begins airing in the Shreveport, Lake Charles, Monroe and Lafayette areas today. A statewide release is set for April.
DCFS Seeks Injunction Against Unlicensed Child Care Provider in Calcasieu Parish

02.28.12 - The Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) has filed a petition seeking a preliminary and permanent injunction against Glynn and Rose Richard for operating an unlicensed child care facility, Mo Mo's Home Care, in Calcasieu Parish. The provider admitted to keeping up to 22 children at any given time.
December Child Support Round-Up Accounts for more than $74,000 from Delinquent Parents Owing more than $1.1 million

01.18.12 - Louisiana Department of Children & Family Services (DCFS) Secretary Ruth Johnson said today that a mom who allegedly abandoned a newborn outside her home in St. Tammany Parish on Monday could have utilized Louisiana's Safe Haven law, which provides a legal means for parents to anonymously give up custody of infants without the threat of prosecution for neglect, abandonment or child cruelty.

12.09.11 - After years of evading efforts to shut them down, the Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) has filed a temporary restraining order and will seek a permanent injunction against Annette Osborne Willis and Latasha Poole for operating an unlicensed child care facility in Orleans Parish. Inspectors recently found 40 children in a small residence with insufficient space, unsafe sleeping arrangements and inadequate supervision.
