DCFS Warns of Possible Phone Scam
The reported scam starts with a phone call that tells the listener that they have won a Walmart rebate card that can be picked up from their local "Food Stamp Office." The caller then asks for the person's credit card information and tells them they will be billed $1.95 to receive the rebate card.
All members of the public should be aware that DCFS does not participate in giveaways and never asks for credit card information from clients.
"We take any and all attempts of fraud, including a phone scam like this, very seriously," said DCFS Secretary Suzy Sonnier. "We are working with law enforcement to get to the bottom of this, but strongly caution the public in the meantime. If you receive a phone call regarding a rebate card available at your food stamp office, it is not from DCFS and you should not give out your information."
