DCFS Regional Administrator Returns from Military Service in Iraq to Serve Louisiana Children and Families

01.21.11 - After serving for nine months as Louisiana Army National Guard's Logistical Civil Augmentation Program Manager at Camp Victory in Bagdad, Iraq, Lieutenant Colonel Lillian Smith returned this week to her job at the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) in a different role - as the new Regional Administrator in Alexandria.

DCFS Increases Access for Clients through 150 Community Partners Statewide

01.20.11 - Louisiana residents now have more than 150 news ways to access DCFS services. The Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) today announced that it has 167 community partners now operating statewide, allowing the agency to increase its reach while reducing its physical footprint.
State of Louisiana Brings Critical Oil Spill Claims Issues to GCCF

11.05.10 - The state of Louisiana, with input from the 10 technical assistance providers who have been assisting impacted individuals and businesses in communities across South Louisiana to navigate the claims process for months, today said that payment of emergency oil claims are being bogged down in red tape and lack transparency. The state and its partners called on independent Claims Administrator Kenneth Feinberg to make critical changes immediately to speed the process.

State urges oil spill claimants to provide documentation to GCCF

10.18.10 - The state of Louisiana said today that based on information provided by Claims Adjuster Kenneth Feinberg, nearly half of the Louisianians who have filed a claim with the independent Gulf Coast Claims Facility (GCCF) must provide additional information before any emergency or final payments. The state has established a toll free phone number to assist the nearly 28,000 claimants who need assistance preparing the needed information or documentation to the GCCF, or the countless others who have yet to file a claim.
Newborn safely relinquished through Safe Haven law

10.07.10 - The Department of Children & Family Services (DCFS) announced today that a 2 week old male was safely relinquished through Louisiana's Safe Haven law last month at a Baton Rouge area hospital. The baby is the thirteenth child relinquished in the state utilizing the Safe Haven law since 2004 and the first handed over in the Baton Rouge area.

DCFS Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Receives $1.4 Million Bonus Award for Outstanding, Timely Customer Service
